Cottage Garden

I rang the bell, and the door was opened by a charming older English gentleman. I explained that I was a garden photographer and author working on a book about cottage gardens. Would it be OK if I took some pictures? Both the garden and house are extremely well maintained. The thatched roof is largely new. It is a tradition cherished by the English—which is fortunate, as it's part of the DNA of these old buildings. There are still quite a few thatched houses in England.

A beautiful garden in southern Sweden is the focus of this work. As a garden photographer and author, I am currently working on a book about cottage gardens. While exploring potential subjects, I encountered an exquisitely maintained property, where I requested permission to capture some images.

Upon ringing the bell, the door was opened by a delightful older English gentleman. I explained the nature of my project, and he graciously agreed to allow me access to photograph both the garden and the house. The latter is particularly well-kept, with a thatched roof that appears to be largely new. This style of roofing remains a cherished tradition among the English, which is fortunate, as it is an integral part of the architectural heritage of these historic structures.

Indeed, thatched houses can still be found in various parts of England, a testament to the enduring appeal of this time-honored craft. The cottage garden I encountered in southern Sweden reflects this same enduring spirit, blending beauty, functionality, and a connection to the past. As I captured its essence through my lens, I was grateful for the opportunity to document this living example of a quintessential English landscape.
